PTA

"Would anyone like to join the PTA?", asked Ryli's kindergarten teacher to a room full of parents after the school's entrance ceremony. Everyone just smiled politely yet no one seemed too eager. I, Casi, hadn't given PTA much thought before this. The first year Abbi was in kindergarten we had just gotten to Japan, so I felt way too new to join. During the second year I was pregnant then had Landon. Again it seemed like too difficult of a time. However, for some reason, after the teacher asked this question (well technically it was in Japanese so it may have been worded differently) I felt compelled that now is the time.

Today's the day

1 couple + 3 kids + 11 suitcases+ 10 carry ons + 12 hour flight = Trip Home to Japan. We are heading to LAX today! The six months in the States have been a crazy wonderful adventure. Taking six months off of "regular life" with three kids isn't a vacation, but we did get a chance to slow down a bit and reflect. Living with the grandparents for the full time gave us the maximum opportunity to soak up as much grandparent time as possible. We made lots of sweet memories.

After our final weekend we had a send off party. After that night Casi described the feeling as being overwhelmed with encouragement. It was the best way to wrap up this chapter and prepare for a brand new season of life as we return to Japan.

It is horribly sad to say goodbye to family and friends, especially now that our kids are getting older and understand more, but at the same time we have a greater hope in God's goodness and His faithfulness to us in easy and difficult times.

3 Weeks to Go

We got back to San Diego at the beginning of the month and we hit the ground running visiting people and getting as much grandparent time in as we can. In just three weeks, on Saturday, March 5th, we'll be heading back to Japan. It has been quite a visit. We've been all over the States reconnecting with friends and family, but now it's time to start packing up and preparing our hearts to say goodbyes. If we haven't been able to connect yet or if you just want to come hang out, Please join us...

We will have an Open House in Scripps Ranch at the Grondin's. Sunday, February 28th from 2:00-6:00 10692 Rookwood Drive. San Diego, 92131.

Come by as you like, as we'll be there the whole time. Praying for a beautiful last three weeks!

(These are our new prayer cards that we will be giving out)

Traveling...Again. Goodbyes...Again

Happy New Year from Texas!! We just got back to Texas on December 30th, in time to celebrate the New Year with the Brown family.

"Goodbye" - off to Texas

As we drove away from grandma and grandpa's house in San Diego, we had a sweet and honest talk with Abbi and Ryli about traveling again and how hard it is to say goodbye. It seems like each time we depart from one location the goodbye feels hard because we all know it's just a small taste of what is coming when we say our big goodbyes at the beginning of March when we return to Japan.

We also talked about the life God has called us to as missionaries in Japan and how we would be facing many goodbyes during this journey. But despite how difficult goodbyes may be, they are accompanied with saying hellos. It was hard to leave Japan, but what joy it was to be reunited with family and friends in the States.

We know March will be really challenging but it will also be awesome to see God bring us back to Japan and be reunited with friends there.

The conversation concluded with an acknowledgment of the difficulties but an assurance that God will help us, and that we will get through this together as a family.
